Thanks for a good post.

Also, your assignment last semester in the Ministry of Writing has inspired me. Even though I wasn't in the class I have started my own blog page. If you'd like to check it out, the address is www.nathansword.blogspot.com. Or you can just search for it on Blogger.com. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. See you Thursday.

Nathan RogersNathan Rogershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13087869133360553247noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4777750410141759635.post-63392078957538525772008-03-24T11:18:00.000-04:002008-03-24T11:18:00.000-04:002008-03-24T11:18:00.000-04:00In addition to being one of the readings for Easte...In addition to being one of the readings for Easter evening, the "road to Emmaus" account is the gospel reading for the third Sunday of Easter, April 6. Your re-telling of the story is very helpful as I prepare to preach on that day.

Of particular interest to me is Jesus' involvement in the "throwing back and forth" between the two "confused disciples" on the road. As you point out he did not immediately correct their "foolish" interpretations. He even had them repeat their misunderstandings to him before offering his own take on the events that troubled these two disciples. Doesn't it appear that Jesus promotes an atmosphere of free and open discourse in his approach? He allows even mistaken perspectives to be "thrown back and forth" for a while before offering his own.

If the proof is in the pudding it appears that free and open discussion is effective. The confused disciples later said that their hearts were buring within them when Jesus opened the scriptures for them.

There may be something in Jesus' approach worth "throwing back and forth" on April 6.David Strattonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11463371323933544332noreply@blogger.com
